Summary:
The project is focused on studying new electrocatalytic nanomaterials useful in fuel cells by Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). These two electroanalytical techniques would provide relevant information regarding the reaction mechanism and the adsorption of reaction intermediates. The main goal is to enhance both activity and durability displayed by different modified Pt-M and Pd-M alloys (M stands for a transition metal). Local modifications on the electrocatalyst surface would be performed by electrochemical means. The electrochemical reactions of interest are oxygen reduction (ORR), borohydride oxidation (BOR) and formic acid oxidation (FAOR) reactions.
